Import from iCloud Mail
Make an app-specific password for your Apple Account with two-factor authentication, then copy your iCloud Mail into AnhourMail.
To copy your mail from iCloud Mail, you make an app-specific password for your Apple Account and give it to the import. iCloud Mail isn't changed: we only read it.
Make an app-specific password
Apple only offers app-specific passwords when two-factor authentication is on for your Apple Account. It's on for most accounts already.
- Sign in to your Apple Account on the web (account.apple.com), or open your Apple Account settings on an iPhone, iPad or Mac.
- Open Sign-In and Security, then App-Specific Passwords.
- Choose to make a new one, give it a name you'll recognise, like "AnhourMail import", and create it.
- Apple shows the password once. Copy it: you'll paste it into the import.
Apple changes its menus from time to time, so the names above may differ a little.
Start the import
- In the console, open Import mail and choose New import.
- Under Provider, choose iCloud Mail. The server settings are filled in for you:
| Provider | IMAP server | Port | User name |
|---|---|---|---|
| iCloud Mail | imap.mail.me.com | 993 | Your iCloud Mail address |
Choosing the provider in the console fills these in for you. The connection is always encrypted (TLS).
- Type your iCloud Mail address as the User name, paste the App-specific password into App password, and choose Start import.
Your folders, Sent, Drafts and Archive arrive in the matching places here. The rest is the same for every provider: see Move your mail here.
If iCloud refuses the sign-in
The import says Needs you: the old provider refused the sign-in. Check:
- You used the app-specific password, not your Apple Account password.
- The user name is your iCloud Mail address (the one ending in an iCloud domain). The email address you sign in to your Apple Account with can be a different one.
- If it still fails, Apple also accepts only the part of your iCloud Mail address before the @.
Then choose Resume and type the app-specific password again (or a new one).
When you're done, revoke the app-specific password in your Apple Account settings.
