Export your data and delete your account
Download your mail, contacts and account data; delete an account with a grace period you can cancel; delete your own sign-in.
Your data is yours. You can take a copy of everything at any time, and when you leave, we delete it.
Export your mail and contacts
Mail and contacts are exported from the webmail, mailbox by mailbox:
- Sign in to the webmail with the mailbox you want to export.
- Open Settings, then Export.
- Choose Download all mail and contacts.
You get a ZIP file with one .mbox file per folder (most mail apps, and many archiving tools, can import these) and
your contacts as a contacts.vcf vCard file. Very large folders are split into parts (Inbox.mbox, Inbox-2.mbox, …).
The file is made as it downloads, straight from your mailbox: we never store a copy. A large mailbox can take a while; keep the tab open until the download finishes. If it stops, download the remaining folders one at a time from the same page. You can also use any mail app over IMAP to copy your mail.
Export your account's data
Owners can export an account's settings from the console: open Account settings and choose Request an export. It's prepared in the background and you get an email when it's ready, usually within a few minutes. The ZIP holds, as JSON and CSV files:
- the account's settings and plan;
- the people in it, their roles and pending invites;
- your domains with the DNS records they need;
- mailboxes and aliases (their settings, not their mail);
- the names of app passwords (never the passwords);
- the account's audit log, newest first. Each entry keeps its hash, so you can check the log wasn't altered.
Anyone can export their own details the same way from Your data (in the menu under your name): your profile, the accounts you belong to and your role in each, your mailboxes' settings and aliases, your sign-in methods and sessions, and what you did in the console.
To download an export you confirm it's you (your password or a code). Only the person who asked can download it. It's kept for 7 days, then deleted. Exports can't be requested or downloaded while Anhourtec support has your account open.
Delete an account
Only an Owner can delete an account. Before you do, export what you want to keep: once deletion starts, the account's mailboxes are suspended and their mail can't be exported.
- Open Account settings and find Delete account.
- Type the account's name exactly as shown, then choose Delete this account.
- Confirm it's you if asked.
What happens next:
- Straight away, every mailbox in the account is suspended: nobody can sign in, send or receive, and mail sent to it is returned to the sender. Its mail is kept. Pending invites are cancelled, and everyone in the account gets an email. Nothing in the account can be changed while it waits.
- For 14 days, any Owner can cancel in Account settings. Cancelling turns the mailboxes back on; a catch-all address that was on stays off until you turn it on again.
- After that, the account, its mailboxes and all their mail, its aliases and masked aliases, and its domains are
removed for good. Free addresses at
anhourmail.comare never given to anyone else. Everyone who was in the account gets an email when it's done.
People keep their console sign-in and any other accounts they belong to. The account's activity log is kept for the period our privacy policy gives, then deleted.
Delete your sign-in
You can delete your own console sign-in from Your data, by typing your sign-in email address. Your sessions, sign-in methods, profile details and photo are deleted at once, and you leave every account you belong to.
You can only do this when no account depends on you:
- A mailbox in someone else's account is yours. Ask that account's admins to remove you first; the mailbox stays with the account.
- You're the only Owner of an account that still has mailboxes, domains or other people. Delete the account first, or make someone else an Owner. An empty account where you're the only person is deleted together with your sign-in.
