People and roles
Invite family or a small group into your account, choose what each person can do, and remove people.
On the Plus and Supporter plans an account can have up to 10 people, counting invites that are still waiting. The Free plan is for one person. Open People and roles in the console to see everyone, their role, when they joined, and the invites you've sent.
People and mailboxes are separate. A person is someone who can sign in to the console; a mailbox is an address with mail in it. Give someone a mailbox on the Mailboxes page by choosing them under Belongs to.
Roles
| Role | Can |
|---|---|
| Owner | Everything, including inviting, changing and removing other owners and admins. |
| Domain Administrator | Add, verify and remove domains. |
| User Administrator | Create and manage mailboxes, manage everyone's aliases, and invite or remove Members. |
| Billing Administrator | Change the plan and see invoices. |
| Member | Their own mailbox, aliases and settings. |
| Read-only (Auditor) | See settings, people, domains, mailboxes and the audit log. Changes nothing. |
Invite someone
- Open People and roles and choose Invite someone. A panel opens on the right.
- Enter their email address and choose a role. Owners can choose any role; User Administrators invite Members.
- Choose Send invite.
We email them a link. It works once, only for that address, for 7 days. When they open it:
- if they don't have an AnhourMail login yet, they enter their name and choose a password, and they're in;
- if they already have one, they sign in with that address and join.
Pending invites are listed under Pending invites; their ⋮ menu has Resend invite and Revoke invite…. Resending sends a new link with a fresh
7 days (the old link stops working). Revoking an invite stops its link at once. An account can send up to 50 invite emails a day, resends included.
Change a role or remove someone
Choose someone's name to open their details panel. Owners change a role on its Role tab (or with Change role in the ⋮ menu beside the name). User Administrators can remove Members. Removing someone asks you to confirm, and they lose access to the account in the console straight away. Their mailboxes and mail are kept; suspend or delete a mailbox from the Mailboxes page if you need to. The app passwords on their mailboxes are revoked, so their mail apps stop signing in.
Some changes are never allowed, so an account can't lock itself out:
- an account always has at least one owner: the last owner can't be removed or given another role;
- nobody can change their own role or remove themselves;
- only an owner can invite, change or remove an owner or an admin.
Every invite, role change and removal is recorded in the audit log.
