Catch-all
Send mail for addresses that don't exist at your domain to one mailbox, and when not to.
Normally, mail sent to an address that doesn't exist at your domain is refused, and the sender is told. With a
catch-all, it goes to one mailbox you choose instead: anything@your-domain reaches you even if you never created
that address.
Catch-all is part of the Plus and Supporter plans, on your own domains. It's off until you turn it on.
Expect more spam
Spammers send to made-up names to find domains that accept everything, so a catch-all mailbox gets far more spam. If you give out different addresses to different sites, aliases and masked aliases are usually the better choice: you can turn each one off on its own.
Turn it on
- Open Domains and choose the domain. It must be verified (shown as Active).
- On the Overview tab, under Catch-all, pick the mailbox that should receive the mail.
- Choose Turn on catch-all. It takes effect within a minute.
Owners and Domain Administrators can change it. The chosen mailbox must be active and in the same account.
Turn it off
Under Catch-all, choose Turn off. Mail to addresses that don't exist is refused again.
The catch-all also turns itself off when its mailbox is suspended or deleted, so mail isn't accepted for a mailbox that can't receive it. Resuming or restoring the mailbox doesn't turn it back on: choose it again if you still want it.
Good to know
- Real addresses and aliases at the domain always win: the catch-all only gets mail for addresses that don't exist.
- Replies from the catch-all mailbox are sent from its own address, not the made-up one the mail was sent to.
- Every change is recorded in your account's audit log.
